Thanks to Doris for suggesting a company to help. They were out in an hour as
said but he couldn't take care of it. The joys of a cellar. That company
referred me to another who had the equipment needed to get into the cellar.
This morning they called and were here about 8:30. Duane was friendly and has
already left after clearing out the drain to the street. Tree roots.
A couple things I learned were, even if the tree is taken down, the roots can
live and grow, taking in water from the pipes, for up to ten years.
Two, he suggested getting the pipes cleared once a year for about 50-75$.
I had never had the pipes cleared and didn't know (or pay attention) to this
yearly clearing.
This visit ran 175$. It includes the clearing of the pipes, plus the clean up
from a back flow of water that didn't head to the sewer, thankfully it was from
the washing machine. But it did soak the floors, rugs and get into the heating
ducts and all over the cellar. $75 suddenly seems cheap.
Now to find someone who can check on the furnace and see if it just had the
pilot go out, or if there is real damage.
Curious if anyone has knowledge on the yearly cleaning suggestion or a furnace
guy who won't cost me half a mortgage payment.
It could have been worse.
