Hello Seward! My name is Stefan Meyer, otherwise referred to as Farmer Stefan :) I wanted to take a brief second to introduce myself and my work. I am a born and raised Minnesota farmer who has taken up digging in the dirt as a personal life mission. I grew up on a family farm in SW Minnesota where I was exposed to a more conventional form of agriculture. I later moved out to the Pacific Northwest, where I lived for 11 years and spent time studying and practicing Permaculture, Ecological Agriculture, Environmental Sciences, Organic Gardening/Farming Practices and an avid composter! Upon returning to my native Minnesota last year, I have taken this life time of experience in dirt digging, and begun to apply it to the urban agriculture movement afoot here in the Twin Cities area. I am in my 2nd year of working with Backyard Harvest (backyardharvest.wordpress.com), a program of the Permaculture Research Institute-Cold Climate ( www.pricoldclimate.org), that installs and maintains edibly divine vegetable gardens for the residents of Minneapolis/St. Paul. As well, I have been working with Seward Redesign over the last year, to start up an urban farm endeavor right here in the Seward Neighborhood. Growing Lots Urban Farm (www.growinglots.blogspot.com) has officially been born, and is in the process of installation. We are running the farmer as a market and CSA farm, and selling 2010 shares right NOW!! ( <email obscured>) <--- shameless self-promotion! I encourage you to contact me with any questions you have, desires to lend a helping hand, or to buy a share.. Once the farm is up and running, there will be ongoing opportunities to visit and tour the farm too.... I am blessed to be here in this great city, doing great work, and look forward to being more involved in the greater Longfellow Neighborhood. sun-filled blessings, Stefan

Welcome, Stefan! I've purchased CSA shares over the years, but as a busy urbanite I had despaired of ever really connecting to one of the farms. I also used to work for the Institute for Local Self-Reliance, which has worked for over three decades to encourage local self-reliance in urban areas. So it just pleases me to no end to see what you and Redesign are undertaking. I can't wait to bring my son to visit and watch the farm develop. Please keep the list, and Seward Profile http://sewardprofile.posterous.com/ , updated on your progress! Becca Vargo Daggett (forum co-manager, with Peter Fleck)
Today Farmer Stefan and I set up the Urban Farmer of Seward blog where he will update the community about our Growing Lots Urban Farm. You can reach it at http://urbanfarmerseward.posterous.com. It's a sister of our Seward Profile news site. We will let you know about updates here in the Forum and we will also send update notices to our SewardTweets Twitter account. http://twitter.com/sewardtweets I'm very excited about the potential for this blog and so is Stefan. It's also open to any community members commenting or sending us posts and pictures. If you want to send pictures or write something (beyond a comment) send me an email and I'll send you details on the process. (It's really easy and is done completely with an email.)
