To SNG Neighborhood: The Bedlam Theatre has just decided to temporarily re-locate into the Bystrom site (now called "Seward Commons" by Redesign). It will be for the winter and it will include office space, rehearsal space and set construction space. No special permits are required. As part of that move, Bedlam is planning a fall art festival--live outside events in the parking lot north of 24th Street between the LRT bike trail and Snelling and events in the warehouse space. It would be 12 days over five weeks (Starting September 24). The events will mainly be on the weekends with a few during the weeks. Events will include puppet workshops, music, spoken word, and other activities. This festival will need a number of special permits from the city (Temporary Assembly permits, Temporary Liquor Service Permits, temporary noise permits). They would like SNG support for these permits. To make the process easier, they would like to be designated a Community Festival. According to Cam Gordon, the easiest way to do this is to have SNG designate the fall event a Community Festival. This doesn't cause any liability issues or result in any other responsibilities for SNG. Bedlam needs official action as soon as possible. Since the SNG board meeting happens after the festival starts, this action will be taken up by the Executive Committee via email and/or phone this Thursday. So, what does the community think? sheldon >>>>>>>>>>> Sheldon Mains President, Seward Neighborhood Group Minneapolis http://www.sng.org http://GiveMN.razoo.com/story/Seward-Neighborhood-Group Begin forwarded message: > > BEDLAM THEATRE 31 August, 2010 > Fall Event Dates for Temporary Permits Proposal > > Temporary Assembly for the period spanning September 24th October 31st. > > The collected activities comprise a Bedlam Fall Theater & Community Art Festival. This neighbor thinks it's great! Go for it . . . I'm more interested in the neighbors nearest the site, and their feelings about the potential disruption. Beyond that, more arts effort in Seward? Well, of course! Shelley des Islets
Yes! I think it is a great idea. Irene Greene Seward

Count me as an enthusiastic supporter.
Bedlam would be a welcome addition. ANY chance of it becoming permanent?

Thanks Bob. Not permanent in that EXACT spot, but of course the area is fantastic if it could work.

My name is Ben Marcy and I am a West Bank/Cedar Riverside neighbor as well as a forum manager for that neighborhood's e-democracy forum. I also work at Bedlam Theatre as a grants manager. Thank you for the support from several community members. It really makes us very happy during these times. For those who don't know Bedlam, we are a non-profit theatre that has made its home on the West Bank since 1993. Our mission is to produce radical works of theatre with a focus on collaboration and a unique blend of community and professional art. We are sad to be leaving our space at 1501 S. 6th St. but are very excited about the possibilities for the future. Here is a link to our website describing who we are http://bedlamtheatre.org/about-2/ I am also attaching a pdf file that illustrates our commitment to community. Thank you. We look forward to reading your thoughts.

Bedlam would be a wonderful addition even if their presence is brief.

Hey Shelden, Thanks for this information. However, even though I am a Seward residen,t I don't always know the Seward "lingo". Where on the map is the Bystrom Site or "Seward Commons by Redesign". Street addresses, I mean. I guess it does not really matter because this is very exciting news! They are welcome what ever the address is. I am mostly curious. Sincerely, MIchele Honderich

Michelle, you gave me an excuse to improve my Google Map skills. The link should have a map with a blue box around the approximate Bystrom/Seward Commons area. Sheldon can correct the boundaries. http://is.gd/ePMmL My understanding is that it will be near Fun City Dogs. Let me know if it doesn't work. Peter On Wed, Sep 1, 2010 at 1:50 PM, michele honderich

Thanks, Peter. I totally intrigued by Google Maps. I just wish I knew how to do more with them. Your link worked great! Dave "You gotta dance like nobody's watching, Love like you'll never be hurt, Sing like there's nobody listening, And live like it's heaven on earth."

This is great! I would love to see Bedlam be a permanent fixture of Seward and honestly, I'd like to see the chunk of the neighborhood be a mini arts/food/green district (Altered Aesthetics, International Noodle, Growing Lots, etc) especially with its proximity to the LRT and green way. p.s. speaking of art in Seward, there is some really great artwork hung this morning at 2nd Moon. Sorry, I should have included the boundaries of Redesign's Seward Commons project. All of this is on the far western edge of the neighborhood. The outdoor area that will be used for events is the un-used parking lot East of the LRT bike trail, West of Snelling Avenue and immediately North of 24th street (about a block West of Minnehaha). I do not know exactly what building(s) Bedlam will be in but here is the general area of the Bystrom project: The main part of the project area is: East of the LRT Bike Path, West of Snelling Avenue, North of 24th Street and South of 22nd Street Other parts of the project include: The parking lot just north of 22nd street (this summer an Urban Farm site) The buildings immediately south of 22nd streeet between Minnehah and Snelling) >>>>>>>>>>> Sheldon Mains President, Seward Neighborhood Group Minneapolis http://www.sng.org http://GiveMN.razoo.com/story/Seward-Neighborhood-Group On Sep 1, 2010, at 1:50 PM, michele honderich wrote: > Hey Shelden, > > Thanks for this information.
