Hi Seward neighbors,

In February, Faith Mennonite Church in Seward will be hosting a small
conference about Christian peacemaking in the context of an empire. It is
open to everyone, and registration is by donation. I'll paste an
announcement about it below.

Thanks,
Michael Bischoff

**

*The Common Root 2009: creating our future in the shadow of Empire

February 13th and 14th at Faith Mennonite Church (*2720 E 22nd St,
Minneapolis)

At the Common Root gathering, we'll explore ways of creatively embracing the
in-breaking Kingdom of God in the shadow of Empire. We want to foster
creative resistance as we seek community practices that bring shalom to a
broken world.

Main presenters include Tom and Christine Sine<http://www.msainfo.org/about/>,
Greg Boyd <http://gregboyd.org/>, Carol
Rose<http://www.cpt.org/speakers/carol_rose>,
and Jin Kim <http://www.cando.org/main/staff.asp>. With breakout sessions on
sustainable living, New Monasticism, the Catholic Worker Movement, urban
church planting, community-based peacemaking, communal spirituality, racial
reconciliation, and more.

Registration is by donation. For more information visit

The first will be this Saturday, January 10 from 12:30 p.m.-2:00 p.m. in

welcome new people to join us. Most of us are in our 60's, and not very fast,
but there can be subgrouping when appropriate. Younger members could help
ensure continuity of the runs. We have been at it for about 13 years.
We meet on the West side of the Franklin Av. Bridge and usually make the
approximately 3.5 mile loop between Lake St. and Franklin Av. bridges.
The runs start promptly at 8:04 a.m.
Meet us there, or call Clem Engen at
612-333-7885 for more info.

Happy Holidays to all the neighbors in the forum and yes, I like the
snow in the winter. (I also commute via bus and/or foot to the U so
don't have to sit in traffic.)

Let's all make 2 New Year's Resolutions:

1. Get a neighbor (or business) to subscribe to our forum. (You can
even send me their email [after asking them!] and I'll do the heavy
lifting.)

2. Post something here! Here's a suggested topic: How can we make this
list more viable for the community? What do we want to see here?
