Thanks for passing that on. I just gave Steve a call.
I think I've posted here or on the MPLS forum before, but I've been
using the wifi for 8 or 9 months now. I dropped my Comcast connection
maybe 6 months ago, using the WIFI fulltime. Those first 3 months
weren't so great, but it got better after a while and that's why I
made the switch. Comcast was certainly much faster at least for
downloads. I probably get around 2mbit max downloads, and more like
1.5 practical. Upload is around 1mbit. Sadly, it's not fast enough to
stream Netflix on demand at great quality, but it works well enough
for the price. I also like that USI is network neutral; it's in the
contract with the City. Comcast, on the other hand, illegally filters
their network traffic.
Once in a while service flakes out and I have to reboot the ruckus,
but that's also common with a modem. My ruckus is sitting in my
windowsill, without direct line of site. I'm a little concerned about
how it'll fare when we have leaves on trees again, but we'll see... I
do like that I have to accounts, one for the ruckus and one for
roaming. Have been in a coffee shop on the laptop in the past when the
wifi was down or slow and was able to hop on USI and still get work
done.
My biggest gripe about USI has been their lack of transparency and any
information at all about what's going on with the network, where
they're installing, etc... Why they don't have a blog they update
once in a while is beyond me.
