Mechanic for an older car?

Looking for someone to work on a 1992 Ford? Called the folks at Action
Auto, whom I really like, and they did not want to work on a car this old?
Wondering anyone knows a good, reasonably price, local mechanic?

Hope everyone had a great NNO. Had to share a photo from ours.

We go to Flanery Brothers over on 42nd and 28th Ave., across from a Baker's
Wife. We've always found them to be really competent, honest, reasonable and
nice. They've worked on our '98 Saturn several times before (including
putting in a rebuilt engine), so chances are good they might do a 92.

Call 'em up and ask 'em. Don't have their number offhand, but Google them or
look them up in the phone book. Pretty sure it's just one "n" in Flanery.

Dave Bicking at Powderhorn Garage (the little grey garage without a
sign on 35th at 20th). 612-729-8580. But it's a one-man shop and
sometimes it takes a while to get an appointment.

I second the Flanery
Brothers<http://www.flanerybrosauto.com/Shop%20History.html>suggestion.
They are reasonably priced, as well as incredibly honest and
direct. We've had them work on both our 2002 Xterra, as well as my 1982
Toyota pick-up. Always, always happy with them...

My mechanics are the "old guys" at chicago and 46th. They've been taking care
of my cars since 1988. I call them my surrogate husbands, .... honest, straight
forward, no frills.

Have to put a plug in for Starr Auto--- very mad at a different auto service
shop on east lake--think they royally ripped me, went to Starr for repairs on
the repairs-- and feel great that I think they are honest, and nice. They are
not a chain as a couple of the places are on East Lake, or a franchise--I vote
stay away from those franchise/chain auto repairs-- ( should of been a red flag
when I was in the office and every person that walked in was very mad and
unhappy about their repairs).

for no charge. i highly recommend them.

Larry Liu at ACS Riverside Imports on Riverside near 21st, across from the U's
West Bank campus has kept our beaters on the road for a good ten years now.
He's a former NASCAR mechanic and works very very fast. He's got integrity and
expertise; he's
honest and pragmatic: Will find used parts for old cars and tell you what you
can do to keep your car running safely and what you should do someday when you
have more money. We trust him. I highly recommend him if you need work done on
older vehicles in particular. Sue

Lanhart Auto, at 42nd and Bloomington, has done an excellent job of repairing
and maintaining my 1994 toyota corolla wagon over the last 6 years. Reliable
employees, fair prices, excellent work. I was referred to them by a neighbor
who had used them for years. I've been grateful for the referral.

I also recommend Larry at ACS -- I've been using ACS/Riverside Imports through
several changes of ownership (he has been there the whole time). I didn't
recommend him only because all my cars have been Japanese, so I was not sure if
that was a specialty or not. Even when my car does not start out very old, it
is usually ancient by the time it is no longer worth fixing, and Larry has
always been able to fix it (or tell us it's no longer worth it). Currently, my
car is a 2000 and my spouse's is a 1995.

How great that there's another Larry Liu client on the listserv; we met him
through Haddayr Copley-Woods and Jan Radder, Powderhornians whose old cars
he also keeps on the road. He's kept our 96 Jeep and 98 Subaru rolling. I
don't think it's just imports: that Jeep would be Coke cans by now if not
for Larry.
