about planting, maintenance, and pest/disease management for trees growing
in your yard, boulevard, or community garden.
Hear from University of Minnesota Extension Educator and apple "fancier"
Kent Scheer (author of Core Knowledge) and Rob Czernik, Orchard Gleaning
Coordinator for The Food Group's Fruits of the City and educator with Big
River Permaculture as they discuss best varieties, integrated pest
management, interplanting, and more!
We know that members of the community also have insight and practice in
apple planting and care, and we invite you to share your skills and
knowledge throughout the session.
Participants will receive copies of Fruits of the City Fruit Tree
Maintenance Guide, as well as Core Knowledge: A Compact Guide for the
Budding Apple Fancier in Northern Climes.
Kent is bringing some rare varieties of apples to taste and sample.
We will be walking over to look at and plant some apple trees. Participants
are welcome to walk, bike, drive or carpool to this second location.
We would greatly appreciate donations of $10-$20 to cover the cost of our
instructor's time and knowledge,* but nobody will be turned away for lack
of funds*.
Come prepared to spend some time outdoors. Wear closed toe shoes and bring
anything you might need: layers, water, gloves, sun protection, etc.
