I'd like to welcome a couple hundred members NE Beats "Ning" website to the now unified NE Minneapolis Neighbors Forum. There are now 400 of us gathered here. I'll let your neighbor Dan Haugen give the official greeting and call for new introductions. Dan is both the Forum Manager here and he was the founder of NE Beats. While we gave those on the Ning site two chances to opt-out of the merger, there will certainly be some folks who either didn't want to remain a member or who will want to tweak their settings. Let me help with that. * Get me out of here now Simply e-mail us: <email obscured> - support (at) e-democracy.org - And we will remove you. * Where to read the forum E-mail: Turn digest off per instructions below Web: http://e-democracy.org/ne Facebook Page: http://bit.ly/939xUe (Excerpts) Twitter: http://twitter.com/edemmplsne (Post subjects) Web Feed: http://forums.e-democracy.org/groups/mpls-ne/messages/posts.atom You may post via the main website or e-mail. * Digest Option - Off or On To turn the digest option OFF and receive each post one at a time via e-mail, simply e-mail: <email obscured> (for web viewers that's: mpls-ne (at) forums.e-democracy.org ) In the subject write: digest off To turn digest ON, instead write: digest on NOTE: We put all the former Ning members on digest because that setting is closest to the Ning experience. Our usual default is normally e-mail delivery. * Reset Password - To Post via the Web, Update Profile, Etc. Your login ID is the e-mail you used to register with the old Ning site (or this site). Former Ning site members need to set a password before they can do more than just read the public posts. To "reset" your password, visit: http://forums.e-democracy.org/reset_password.html * No e-mail? If you would like no e-mail and no e-mail digest - an option for those who prefer to use the Web Feed or follow via the Facebook Page - that option is available. You need to reset your password per the instructions above, login and change your delivery settings on the web site: http://e-democracy.org/ne * More options We will detail how to share photos, video via YouTube, update your public profile including your photo (if you like), later. In short, the technology we use is simpler than Ning and we think easier to use. But it is different and its approach may be different. Unlike Ning we allow people to post conveniently via e-mail which can make the web view a bit messier. This also means the exchange may be busier than the previous Ning site. * Welcome to the family E-Democracy.org is a 501.c3 non-profited founded in Minnesota in 1994. We will soon have 20 "neighbors" Issues Forums across Minneapolis and St. Paul - each run by a local volunteer. We also have a Ford Foundation grant focused on inclusion that is building out forums in lower income, high immigrant neighborhoods. Hi there,
I was referred to the forum by a friend who thought it could be a helpful

My wife and I are expecting our first poopmonster here in a few weeks. After

Please consider using this or similar forums (start discussion before meeting
and add to the record at the physical meeting), online polling tools (kiosks in
Recreation Centers), and streaming video along with a twitter-like response
tool (taking comments live based on the video during the meeting). This
strategy would allow people to participate without physically attending.

As some of you may know, there is a proposal to open a household hazardous waste drop-off and transfer station facility at 340 27th Ave NE, just off University Avenue. This has generated quite a bit of talk in the immediate area of the proposed site, and it would have a fairly significant effect on the city as a whole, as well as some of southern Anoka County, where residents will probably be able to come down and pay to drop things off. But will the facility be clean, safe and World Class, or cheap and dingy, yet another example of what happens when you always take the low bid? Here's your chance to talk about this and other topics... The Holland Neighborhood Association general neighborhood meeting tomorrow (Thursday 7/8/10 at 7pm at the Firefighters' Museum, 664 22nd Ave NE, between Washington and Monroe an next to the Edison football field) will feature discussion on the proposed facility, along with other neighborhood issues. The museum is a great venue for neighborhood meetings, and everyone is invited, so come over and discuss this if you are interested and able to attend. More info: http://www.hnia.org/?p=799 . I've been pretty aggressive in requesting that these deliveries not be made to
my house, we'll see if the message got through this time.
I hate this practice across the board--it feels like it doesn't accomplish
anything but mark properties as targets for crime. Not just abandoned
properties, it's a signal to people driving by that tells them who's on
vacation, or even when people get home from work.
More junk landing on doorsteps today, in Northeast Minneapolis anyway.

AS you know the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board just purchased the
Sherer Bros lumberyard site along the Mississippi in NE to expand our
regional parkland and trails along the riverfront. This purchase was made
possible through the parks and trails portion of the 2008 Constitutional
Legacy Amendment. How that money will be allocated in the future is under
discussion and the workshop closest to NE is tonight, Tuesday June 15th at
the MPRB headquarters. Details below.
Liz Wielinski
Columbia Park
District 1 (NE/SE) Park Commissioner
Workshops offer citizens an opportunity to help chart future of
Minnesotas parks and trails system
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is conducting a series of 17
workshops around the state to gather thoughts and ideas from the public on
how to spend money from the 2008 Constitutional Legacy Amendment, as well
as other traditional resources, over the next 25 years. One of the
workshops will be held June 15 at the Minneapolis Park and Recreation
Board (MPRB) headquarters building, 2117 West River Road at 7:00 p.m.
Meeting participants will watch a video presentation, vote electronically
on eight questions, and see the result. They will also be able to take
part in discussions and ask questions. This is an opportunity for all
people who enjoy and benefit from use of the regional parks in Minneapolis
and around in the state to make their priorities known.
Benefits
Regional parks and trails in Minneapolis draw visitors from the greater
metropolitan area, as well as visitors from around the nation and the
world. Parks such as the Chain of Lakes, Theodore Wirth Park, and
Minnehaha Park are highly visited regional parks and are part of the
Metropolitan Regional Park System. Some of the MPRBs regional parks have
already benefited from the Legacy Amendment Parks and Trails fund. The DNR
needs to hear from the citizens who live near and use the parks about
their priorities for these and other recreation areas over the next 25
years. If you live in Minneapolis, you live near one of these parks.
Parks and Trails Legacy Planning Effort
In 2008, Minnesotans passed the Clean Water, Land, and Legacy Act funded
by a 3/8% increase in the state sales tax. 14.25% of the funds generated
from this increase is allotted for state and regionally significant parks
and trails.
The MN State Legislature requested that a plan be developed to help guide
how the Legacy Fund, as well as other traditional sources of funding,
should be spent for state and regional parks and trails. The DNR was
charged to lead the planning effort in collaboration with other park and
trail providers, non-governmental organizations, and citizens throughout
Minnesota.
Citizen Involvement
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is partnering with the
Citizens League, a non-partisan, non-profit organization, in the workshop
planning and community outreach effort. People from all walks of life are
encouraged to participate in the workshops, especially those who currently
dont use the regional or state parks and trails system.
For meeting details and more information about the Parks and Trails Legacy
Plan, visit www.patl.intergov.mn.gov.
People unable to attend a workshop the June 15th workshop can provide
input on the Citizens League Web site at www.citizing.org
