Please join us on Wednesday July 18th for a Longfellow Neighborhood Forum:
Foreclosures in Our Community at the Longfellow Recreation Center located at
3435 36th Ave. S from 6:00-7:30pm.
The forum will be a time for Longfellow residents to discuss the impact the
foreclosure crisis has had on our neighborhood and brainstorm ways we can work
collectively to keep Longfellow families in their homes. During the forum we
will hear from Longfellow resident Anita Reyes-Reley.
Ms. Reyes-Reley, who has owned her home on 39th Ave for 17 years, fell behind
on her mortgage when her hours were cut and vertigo prevented her from making
the 100-mile one-way drive to work. She reached out to Cindy Koonce, Vice
President at Woodlands National Bank, to find a solution to stay in her house
and Ms. Koonce told Anita she would do everything she could to help her.
Although Anita has returned to work and earns more than enough to afford her
mortgage, to her shock, on the end date of her redemption period, Ms. Koonce
called Anita and told her she needed to leave her home.
With the help of Occupy Homes MN, Anita has began building a public pressure
campaign, including call-ins and a petition, for Woodlands National Bank to
renegotiate her mortgage so she can stay in her home. Numerous Longfellow
neighbors, in addition to the Community Connections Committee of the Longfellow
Community Council, have already pledged their support, called Ms. Koonce on
behalf of Anita, and put “stop foreclosures” lawn signs in their front yards.
Please join us on Wednesday July 18th to hear from Anita, learn how to plug
into her campaign and brainstorm ways to stop all foreclosures in our
Longfellow community!
