Night Out? Spread the word here for free.
If you'd like to extend an invite to neighbors down the street to
crash your party, share your location, time, and other details.
(People just a block away without a party will be too shy to join you
unless you let them know that they are welcome even if they didn't get
a paper flyer invite.)
The official scoop from the city:
http://bit.ly/mplsnno
"National Night Out is an annual nationwide event that encourages
residents to get out in the community, holding block parties and
getting to know their neighbors as a way to encourage crime
prevention. It's a great way to promote community-police partnerships
and enjoy a Minnesota summer evening surrounded by friends and
family."
And their huge list of -registered- events: http://bit.ly/mplsnnoevents
FYI - St. Paul has great resources as well: http://bit.ly/nnostpaul
* Why wait a year to connect with your neighbors again???
Also, when someone says, we shouldn't wait another year to do this
again, how about plotting a Sunday Supper on MLK Day weekend?

We put in this related Green Line Challenge idea:
http://bit.ly/photothemountain - Minneapolis and St. Paul both need a
winter-time large scale very distributed in-person neighbor connecting
event building off NNO seeking to connect people across our
community's diversity.
And finally, let people know about your open and inclusive,
community-based online "Neighbors Forum" - send them to:
http://beneighbors.org
- Unlike gated community .com resident-only models (who are gearing up
to vacuum local ad dollars from our neighborhood newspapers, etc.), we
welcome the community groups and local businesses who serve our
community to directly share announcement and to be included online.
;-) Actually, be sure to invite people into ALL the places
block/building on up where neighbors are connecting online, but stand
up for our locally-based non-profit "farmers market" model. Please
also reach out beyond homeowners and across ethnicity - e-connections
can break ice for stronger, more diverse communities - but our lesson
is that you have to "just ask" - http://bit.ly/newvoicesvideo - or the
most connected will simply get more connected and most people will be
left out. - Steve
