Thanks for the nice comments, Mike.

As to Mitch, it sounds like he would have been happier to see "Rage" at the
Target Center in Mpls.

There is still time folks, to come down and see the most peaceful and
informative protestnear theconvention. We will be here until 10PM. Parking is
easy a few blocks up the hill by the Cathedral on either Marshall, Dayton, or
Selby.

I might add that many of us have been interviewed by the press, i.e. Channel
11, both newspapers, Denver area press, Korean and German TV, and others I may
have missed. Even Washington Post writer, Gene Robinson, and commentatoron
MSNBC, stopped by and chatted for about 30 min. The Cathedral in house media
also stopped by to talk and take pictures.

As someone who is responsible for suggesting restaurants to convention
delegates residing in a Minneapolis hotel, I agree. Minneapolis is getting the
biggest benefit from this event. St. Paul is getting the bigger black eye.

I know there was an event at the Myth night club in Maplewood and another at
the Earle Brown Center in Brooklyn Park?. There was also an event on one of the
Mississippi boats. The rest are here in Minneapolis, including a Beach Boys
concert.

Finally, I was asked to suggest a nearby restaurant a delegate could get
something other than a hot dog. This was 40 minutes prior to the last bus
departing for the Xcel Center for last night's programs. I tried to suggest St.
Paul restaurants, explaining that he could easily walk back to the Xcel Center
when finished. He was insistent on a Minneapolis restaurant even though, it
would be unlikely he would get to one, order food and get it before the last
bus left for St. Paul.

The experience added to delegates taking off their credentials they are
required to wear around their neck only points to an effort by someone or
something to scare delegates when they are in St. Paul.

We, as Minnesotans, owe Sen. McCain a vote of thanks for saving us from the
possibility, no matter how slight, of Governor Molnau.

On a local note, if Sheriff Fletcher had been as diligent in watching over his
own department instead of using informants and an undercover operative to watch
the anarchists over the last year, we might have been spared the indignity of
having a St Paul police officer and a sheriff's civilian employee tried and
convicted in an FBI sting operation.

I noted that the Palin family including the boyfriend of her pregnant minor
daughter. If he is going to be included in family pictures with McCain,
discussing why he is there would seem to be reasonable.

She continues to lie about earmarks. She said she rejected the Bridge to
Nowhere earmark "I told them [Congress] to keep it." In fact she keep the
money, all $200 million of it.

My take, cute former beauty queen who talks with the smoothness of Rod Grams.
Unfortunately, I think there is about as much behind the facade as with Grams.

Back on local issues, the reaction of police/sheriff's deputies bears some
scrutiny. Hauling off anarchists is one thing; arresting, placing in the
Juvenile Detention Center then turning out on the street minors without
notifying their parents is both wrong and against St Paul Police policy.

Over all the security has been heavy handed but not excessive.

However, just like the Super Bowl, the net benefit to St Paul has not been
positive. Minneapolis seems to be getting the discretionary spending (parties,
meals, etc) and St Paul gets the lost business from reduced access to local
businesses.

 >
 > The Jumbotron with the anti-war message that blazed through
 > the gray day at the corner of Kellogg Blvd. and John Ireland
 > Blvd.in St. Paul Tuesday was one of three battles
 > overpolitical advertisementsthat ended in victory for those
 > protesting the RNC.
 >
 > On Friday, court action by Ramsey County Judge Kathleen
 > Gearin meant that True Blue Minnesota, a St. Paul-based
 > group opposed to the war in Iraq, could put up its giant
 > video billboard. Previously, the Capitol Area Architectural
 > Planning Board had denied a variance to the group, with Lt.
 > Gov. Carol Molnau casting the deciding vote.
 >
 > Molnau cited traffic safety concerns about the sign. Guerin
 > didn't rule in favor of True Blue, but took the issue
 > under advisement. The result was that True Blue could put up
 > the rented 22-foot by 30-foot billboard as Guerin reviewed
 > the records.
 >
 > Other groups protesting the RNC haven't fared as well.
 > The Union of Concerned Scientists ! lost its bid to have an
 > anti-nuclear weapons sign at the Minneapolis-St. Paulairport
 > to greet just-arrived Republican officials and delegates.
 >
 > Last week, a New York photographer who had planned to
 > display soldier portraits on five billboards around the Twin
 > Cities had her contract canceled by CBS Outdoor, according
 > to the New York Times. The portraits were part of the
 > Soldier Billboard Project; one billboard went on display
 > during the Democratic National Convention in Denver.

I resent folks hijacking my issue oriented Limerick thread (had to
switch to Haiku), too. There is certainly no need to point out what
may or may not be a personal failure of the family kind when there
are so many more important issues to discuss.

Here's a last Limerick about global matters Minnesotans should be
concerned about, of which Bush and his protgs, John McCain and
Sarah Palin, have no grasp:

Joe Lieberman prods undecided
To country, not party be bided
He urges desertions
Of party insertions
But planet trumps country -- be chided

The most important issue to me is just what the Republican positions
are based upon, and the Palin choice by McCain cements the God, Guns,
and Gays crowd position in today's GOP, a party that, ironically,
started out standing for human rights 154 years or so ago, to
decisions and positions with no basis in reality, scientific or
religious. Our own governor has shown his true colors and abandoned
any semblance of scientific understanding to embrace Gov. Palin's
views on intelligent design and teaching religion in public schools
(NBC interview last Sun.).

I see people in control of our Metro area police forces abusing their
power in assaults and denials of rights on what may turn out to be
trumped-up evidence (we may never know thanks to the weakening of our
rights; they're all 'just so' claims, folks), and it reminds me of
the dystopian future portrayed in numerous works of science fiction,
where we live in degraded environments without rights and lorded over
by the pious of one religious or political denomination or another as
war rages. One day we may wake up and our constitution may be nothing
more than a cruel joke on us, somewhat less significant than my
Limericks.

Palin tonight along and all the others didn't help them one bit, I
think; their perennial ideological fusion problems are getting pretty
funny these days, especially given Joe's rampant nationalism
yesterday and the continuation, tonight. I think Obama will make it
to the White House, spending two terms there, and dying of old age,
much, much later (getting kind of macabre there, Wizard).

Frankly, I don't think Obama will be allowed to live until the election. There
are too many haters loose in this country and we have ample evidence of nut
jobs willing to shoot presidents, presidential hopefuls, and others.

Also, the votes were screwed up in Ohio during the last election and in Florida
the election before that. What makes anyone think that it won't happen again?
This time, electronic voting could well make it easier to not count votes.

We've watched three days of police state behavior in St. Paul with one more to
go, all under the rubric of Homeland Security.

Obama has already been swift boated by that doofus Jerome Corsi. His book
attacking Obama is on the NY Times best seller list. The pusillanimous shock
jocks have raked both Obama and Clinton over the coals for the last 18 months.

And then there's Joe Lieberman.

I don't think we have a chance of an even marginally honest election.

I swear if we lose this election it is going to be because there is such a
large segment of the Obama fans that just can't stop going on the personal

they
actually made Hillary a object of sympathy. They almost lost what appeared
to

They even made Bill and Hillary out to be racists and now when Mc Cain picks

Protesters: 1 for 3 on billboards
Jill Burcum, Star Tribune

The Jumbotron with the anti-war message that blazed through the gray day at the
corner of Kellogg Blvd. and John Ireland Blvd.in St. Paul Tuesday was one of
three battles overpolitical advertisementsthat ended in victory for those
protesting the RNC.

On Friday, court action by Ramsey County Judge Kathleen Gearin meant that True
Blue Minnesota, a St. Paul-based group opposed to the war in Iraq, could put up
its giant video billboard. Previously, the Capitol Area Architectural Planning
Board had denied a variance to the group, with Lt. Gov. Carol Molnau casting
the deciding vote.

Molnau cited traffic safety concerns about the sign. Guerin didn't rule in
favor of True Blue, but took the issue under advisement. The result was that
True Blue could put up the rented 22-foot by 30-foot billboard as Guerin
reviewed the records.

Other groups protesting the RNC haven't fared as well. The Union of Concerned
Scientists ! lost its bid to have an anti-nuclear weapons sign at the
Minneapolis-St. Paulairport to greet just-arrived Republican officials and
delegates.

Last week, a New York photographer who had planned to display soldier portraits
on five billboards around the Twin Cities had her contract canceled by CBS
Outdoor, according to the New York Times. The portraits were part of the
Soldier Billboard Project; one billboard went on display during the Democratic
National Convention in Denver.

That is true. Her daughter isn't running for election, and should be
left alone. However, I think it is reasonable under the circumstances
to inquire what Palin's views are on sex education, and instruction of
youth about contraceptives, and how she feels those positions have
worked out. If the youth don't pay attention, we can't really blame
Palin for that, but they should have the information, and know that it's
ok to act upon.

Trying to get her brother in law fired because her sister had a beef

her part, in my book. Damn, we had a war over that once. Note that her
gubernatorial campaign slogan was "Alaska First". Involvement in

I'm a Democrat and a DFL office holder (retired). I don't think there
is anything to be gained by criticizing Palin's early pregnancy or
her daughter's. Negativity on that level makes those who put it out
there sexists.

I think there is plenty to be said about Governor Palin's ability to
hold office. The electorate in Alaska constitute a very small number.
50% regard Senator Ted Stevens highly, after his indictment. Just
perusing several of the web sites on voting and various topics
indicates that nothing seems to be too far to the right in Alaska.

The voting public in the lower 48 as it is called are less likely to
occupy the wild frontier attitude found in Alaska. Here I think Palin
will have some tall talking to do. But few women will be inclined to
pick on early pregnancies as a reason to not vote for her.

This selection of Palin by McCain is starting to remind me of the
1992 Ross Perot presidential candidacy. Ross seemed to be going along
fairly well until he announced his vice presidential candidate.
People said, "huh?"
