This post is two-fold. I am looking for people that know things about using
wikis with a local focus and I am looking for people that may be interested in
helping develop a local wiki for the Twin Cities area.
Essentially the wiki would have articles on anything related to the Twin
Cities: neighborhoods, places to go, history, organizations, businesses,
people, events, city life, etc. Basically anything related to the area.
https://dentonwiki.org/ and https://trianglewiki.org/ are great examples of
what this could become. The software to run the wiki is specifically designed
for this purpose and is free and open source: http://localwiki.org/
The wiki would be a collaborative effort. It is editable by anyone and
everyone is encouraged to help build it. I would be happy to undertake the
technology side of it, help write articles, and help coordinate it... but I
cant do all this alone!
What I am looking for: I want to know if people have any interest in this. We
would also need people to take photos, write articles, coordinate, engage,
publicize, etc. Basically we would need people to be involved in any way they
are interested. Remember this is just sharing what you already know about
where you live and work. This also provides a great opportunity to learn more
and meet new people.
Please let me know your thoughts. We are in the very initial stages... it is
only an idea right now. Who wants to help make this a great resource for the
Twin Cities area?
Thank you all for your input,
Brian Fier
