I'll be visiting the Knowle West Media Centre tomorrow and then in the evening members of the Brislington and Great Bedminister Neighbors Forums are meeting at Llandoger Trow pub in central Bristol at 8pm: http://forums.e-democracy.org/r/topic/3DVpuvr4pdiQVkVU8jdXZv If you have an interest in relaunching this forum (you need just one person willing to seed some discussion topics from time to time as a Forum Manager and a refresher recruitment drive), drop me a note: <email obscured> - http://e-democracy.org/contact The key to our recent success is embracing fun - a broader "community life" scope along with public issues. In one of our forums, people are jointly figuring out what kind of bugs they are finding in their house and what to do about them. Now that is a "shared" community experience: http://forums.e-democracy.org/r/topic/6OGjwZvhqXjgWmx3RPd3Nz This is the same forum dealing with increased gang and gun violence, prostitution, and other neighbourhood challenges - see the examples under Powderhorn Park: http://pages.e-democracy.org/Example_discussions I will make the time before I leave Bristol on June 30 to meet with you one on one/two/three and share lessons from our soon to be 20+ neighbourhood network of local Issues Forums. (I volunteer with one in my own neighborhood: http://e-democracy.org/se - for example with 500+ members.) With only a few minutes each day, you might just be the person (or know the person) who can create a vibrant online public space for your community that works! I can't make it but I think the whole forum idea needs proper research as I
don't think you can expect it to just work by transporting the same idea from
one community to another.
Communities can be very different.
I've had this discussion before and I think the proof is in the usage of this
forum.
I think most young people use facebook and these are the people you want to be
engaging with (hopefully)
