In September, I'm going to be making a presentation at a Linux user group in
the Washington DC-area on
how to mentor new Linux users remotely - passing along ideas and best
practices. As part of that presentation, I'm going to be setting up a Google
Site web site to share this same info globally.
If anyone here is interested in joining in to add info to such a web site, I
can send you an invitation. I haven't
set up the site yet - but plan on doing so in the next few days.
This site will include some tips on how to track down affordable laptops on
eBay. Last week, for example,
I bought a Core i3 Dell laptop on eBay for $30. This laptop is missing a
battery and doesn't have sound, but
in other respects runs beautifully. I may be sending this $30 laptop to a
person I'm mentoring in Ghana. Last
week, a Corei5 ThinkPad laptop was delivered to this person. I was lucky in
that shipping was free as
a friend's sister was traveling to Ghana and kindly agreed to include this
laptop in her luggage.
