existing open space and we took the hounds over to Callahan State Park
for a walk. We only went 3-2/3 miles and it took us almost an hour and
three quarters. Not too far and not too fast but some of us have to take
small steps and watch where we put our feet and some of us have to sniff
every third tree. You may assign for yourselves, who does what. But I
have some observations and questions as a result of our foray.
First of all, the whole time we were out there, two of us in short
sleeve shirts, we did not feel, see, or even hear, one single mosquito.
So, unless you live in a swamp or have a lot of old tires on your
property, when Mosquito Willy rings you bell and wants to dump poison on
your lawn to kill mosquitoes, you may safely tell him to bugger off. I
have never seen Callahan with no mosquitoes at this time of the year and
we have been walking there for decades.
Second of all, if the dog people have to pick up and take home their
dog's poop, how come the horse people can leave six pound piles of horse
poop in the middle of the trail and just carry on? I think that dog
people are being discriminated against. We should protest. Well, never
mind. I have lived in Framingham long enough to know that horsess*it is
just part of the landscape.
And finally, if you go over there and walk the trails, keep a good
situational awareness and look up every once in a while. I pulled down a
widowmaker that was right over the middle of the trail and saw a dozen
other that I couldn't reach. And maybe don't go on the trails if it is
blowing very hard.
Be well and play nice.
