not to go down this road, but to follow the 1950 B. O.S. and honor one of
the longest right's America has." Here Frank Reilly, distinguished and
former Town Meeting Member, rightly expressed his amazement and chagrin,
when three members of the Board of Selectmen (BoS) refused to call a Special
Town Meeting according to town and state law.
The articles of that special TM addresses serious veterans' grievances and
concerns which appear to be mounting by the day and are said to be ignored
by the executive branch of Framingham governance.
Moreover, said action by the BoS also constitutes an egregious breach of one
of the very basic doctrines of American political science and political
theory: separation of powers. To those who challenge this observation,
take a hard look at Marbury v Madison, the Federalist papers, the
deliberations of the Constitutional Convention which led to the abolishment
of the Articles of Confederation, to name just a few. And Google also sheds
more than sufficient light on this issue.
Town Meeting Members may also feel exasperated by repeated calls for action
to right these grievances. On the other hand, veterans' frustration is
growing almost into a dispute with the Town of Framingham. This is a
situation that never should have developed and never should have been
allowed to fester.
Maybe, it's also time for veterans and their families to come together,
share facts, and determine how to proceed. They can't be expected to have
to continually go to Natick to obtain relief.
Please let wiser heads prevail.
