Since Andrew Hine created some consternation over a ficticious sighting of a
deceased eagle I thought folks should know there is a nested pair over by
Keller Lake. Today, one of the eagles was sitting on the sandy point on the
east side of Lake Phalen.
The majestic bird was easily seen from East Lakeshore Drive. I believe Teddy
Roosevelt was wrong when he said the eagle was nothing more than a dandified
vulture.
More bald eagles on the Highland Golf Course (along with my friend the
sharp-shinned hawk [that was in my backyard oak tree this morning], as well
as great blue herons, red-tailed hawks, lots of mallards of course, downy
and hairy woodpeckers, goldfinches all this week as they migrate through,
red fox and deer at dawn and dusk, countless rabbits, and so on); also bald
eagles frequently on the river near the school district offices at about
Randolph and Shepard Rd.
