Subject: RE: Worm Ranger - Jumping Worm Bioblitz - Sept - October
To:
Hello please help us get this opportunity out to groups and individuals
that could help us collect data on where jumping worms are found throughout
the state. If you're playing in the dirt you are already participating!
--------------------------------------
*Calling all Worm Rangers! *
The push for wrangling up jumping worms has started! This non-native Asian
earthworm is the latest to arrive in Minnesota and has been causing
problems across the States for years. Jumping worms can drastically alter
the soil structure in our forests and gardens. Join us September - October
to help document the spread of these invasive critters. We are looking for
Worm Rangers to help us investigate jumping wormsβ distribution and
dispersal mechanisms throughout Minnesota. Learn more on our website and
check out our online training program.

Or go straight to a self-guided online training at:

Participate in wrangling up those worms to track their whereabouts. With
help from citizen scientists like you and our partners (Great Lakes Worms
Watch, Boulder Lake Environmental Learning Center, Minnesota Department of
Natural Resources and the University of Minnesota) we can investigate how
these worms spread and act. Join us on our journey into the dirt to track
these pesky worms. Enjoy getting out in your own backyard or garden, but
stay safe, social distance and abide by all covid-19 guidelines for your
area.
This is a simple project you can do from home!
1. Head out into your yard, garden, woods
2. Inspect: gardens, mulched and composted areas. Observe top 3β of soil.
3. Do you see soil that looks like coffee grounds?
4. Do you see worms moving like snakes or thrashing around? Maybe a
tail fell off?
5. Report your finding or lack of findings (we are interested in their
absence as well) on through the website
1. https:// jwp.cfans.umn.edu/jumping worms project
<https://%20jwp.cfans.umn.edu/jumping%20worms%20project>
6. Repeat observations in 2020 and 2021
PLEASE PASS THIS ON TO INDIVIDUALS AND GROUPS YOU KNOW.
Thanks for your consideration,
The Worm Ranger Crew
