club in Cass Lake as well as the branches in S-Lake, Deer River and Walker
(which has been running on a summer programming grant)?
Most clubs around the nation have a much larger volunteer staff running
programs, whereas in Cass Lake at least the backbone of the staff has been a
handful of dedicated people (receiving a wage) who have defied turnover
statistics typical of other clubs and provided consistent afterschool attention
to kids for a number of years.
Hurt feelings and blame aside, and considering its financial straits, what
could this retooled oasis of afterschool programming look like as a more
sustainable club?
