I would like to thank those of you who were able to attend Artist for a Day on
October 15, 2011. I was one of 6 winners of the EveryBlock Chicago Very
Important Neighbors contest and I used the $1,000 prize to produce the event
in the North Lawndale African Heritage Garden. We had a wonderful time
pretending to be artists, chowing down on food and remembering community
gardeners who have helped make the North Lawndale THE leading Chicago community
in terms of the number of community gardens, and the infrastructure that is
