Hi
I have just heard about the bicycle hire scheme they have in London .I think
Christchurch would be perfect for a similar system .You can take a bike from
one 'parking area' and leave it at another .the first half hour is free or $2
for a whole day..Parking could be at the university( no need for expensive rail
link) .at shopping malls, libraries, Train stations(make use of existing tracts
and add more trains and stations), sports complexes, movie theaters, etc
What is cheaper than pedal power?
For those who cant ride bicycles solar powered or electric buses or taxis could
be available

Why bother exploring for a
limited life energy resource at all? It will only run out one day
and ultimately civilization needs to address the fundamental
constraint of living within our means.
Every householder has to do it - why can't a community? We only
have so much electricity [energy] to go round - we must all only use
our share.
Developing renewable resources is one thing, and many people are
doing good work on it already.
What I want to see some work on is the mentality of managing
consumption.
Sinking a gas well is a waste of time money and most of all, mental
energy. Let's redirect our thinking.

Subject: [Papanui] Gasland Film Screening - Monday 17 October
The purpose of this post is to help inform the public about the plans to
explore for natural gas in Canterbury.
This is not something that I would normally oppose. The economic
advantages seem self evident, but I've been informed about a serious
environmental downside, pollution of the ground-water. So it's time to
get better informed.
Pattie Mason of "Say no to Fracking" Canterbury, reports:
Those of you attending the Gasland screening next Monday, 17 October,
the film is 104 minutes long. So with a 7.30pm start we should be done
by 9.15pm. Come along if you can. Also, if you know of others who'd like
to come along then ask them.
It's going to be in the A4 lecture theatre, best place to park is
probably in front of the Law building and then follow signs to the
lecture theatre.
JSV adds: The film will be shown in the Arts Lecture Block, Theatre A4.
It's on the South side of University, Riccarton side, (Not near the
Library and the Central Lecture Theatres).
