This video of Ernesto Sirolli was released to the public in November
2012, but it was available to readers here, back in March 2012.
I attended a three hour session with Ernesto at the Town Ball, late last
year. I have not reported on that before because it was already the
silly season. We need to identify people who support this proposal. Are
you one of those? I think the Ministry of Awesome has this project on
their agenda.
The Enterprise Facilitation Process involves finding people who have
both expertise and a passion to make that expertise available in a
commercial way. The trick of Enterprise Facilitation is to build a small
team around that person, so that each person is doing what they are good at.
In almost 30 years of promoting this process there have been many
lessons learned. For instance Ernesto Sirolli has been in NZ before,
invited by the Labour Government. Efforts were made to promote EF in NZ,
but it carried the dead hand government influence, rules and procedures,
and died.
Government brought their agenda to the table. Rule One: The facilitator
should NEVER bring his / her own philosophy to the table. The process is
to LISTEN to the passion of the person, and to build on the strengths of
that person.
Here's Ernesto's new proposal for Christchurch.
Set up a management group. Executive management is necessary, because
very often the first person employed isn't suitable for the role.
Enterprise facilitation attracts people who have good intentions but
lack the discipline to be successful. The management group has the power
to employ and to fire Enterprise Facilitators.
Raise funds. This work needs to proceed without the facilitator having
to worry about his / her own funding, now and in the foreseeable future.
Create and train a governing team.
Provide Training for the Enterprise Facilitator.
Create a network of active supporters. (Can you help here?) They will
need induction, and a little training. They are people who understand
the intention and who agree to introduce the EF to ten friends and
family during the first three months of his / her work.
This allows a network of about 500 people to become aware of the
programme and supportive of it.
A few clients will begin to flow into the system.
Who are you?
Who else in in your team?
What is your plan?
Monthly meetings: Designed to allow people with ideas to pitch their
idea to a small interested audience. These meetings also enable the EF
to explain who he / she has met and the problems encountered. Who do you
know who might be able to help?
Business ideas are worth nothing until they have a champion, a
discipline and a team to implement the proposal.
