5 PEOPLE ARRESTED FOR KARAOKE!
Police arrested 5 people during a peaceful demonstration outside a
Brighton-based arms manufacturer today. Thirty people turned out to
demonstrate against the factory during a themed 'Bad Karaoke'
demonstration. Over 40 police were present.
The police used a local byelaw to seize the karaoke machine and
arrested 5 people during a rendition of 'We are the champions',
one of them aged only 16. Although members of a BBC film crew were
present this did not stop the police from aggressively arresting 3
more people. Police then surrounded protesters and pushed them away
from the site of their regular Wednesday demonstrations to the bottom
of the road.
Sarah Johnson said 'We have been protesting outside this factory
for four years. This is the most heavy handed policing we've seen
outside this factory in over two years. Arms dealers EDO have used
Sussex police as their rotweillers before and their efforts have
ended in failure and humiliation for the company. This is a desperate
act by a failing company. The community has shown time and again that
this aggression will not silence us. We will continue to protest
against EDO until it has been shut down'.

So what percentage of jobs in Brighton and Hove are policing jobs? Maybe
they -the police- are underoccupied?

By all accounts 40 of these scum had enough time on their hands to try and
smash the campaign against EDO. Being thick as well, the only effect of their
actions will be to stimulate more people to attend the demonstrations. I
haven't been for some time but I'm going next week.
I have a single parent who was subject to a vicious attack by a young hoodlum
(who was given a reprimand). It took them weeks, and only after I'd written to
Jacqui Smith the Divisional Commander with copies to the local MP etc., before
they managed to even visit the person in question.
Of course being an old Marxist this is all quite understandable. The primary
purpose of the Police, despite their PR crap, is to defend the status quo.

Thanks once again to Sussex Police. We can, as always, rely on them to
perk up numbers attending the demos.
They obviously are learning their tactics from the Met who, on Monday by
banning the STWC march made what would have been an insignificant march
of a thousand into a march of four thousand.

It seems the police may have powers to take DNA samples (if they get hold of
you). Concern expressed in a recent bioethics committee report:
http://www.nuffieldbioethics.org/fileLibrary/pdf/The_forensic_use_of_bioinformation_-_Executive_Summary.pdf
"Fingerprints and DNA samples may be taken from suspects, victims or
witnesses in the course of criminal investigations. If an individual has
been arrested in connection with a ‘recordable’ offence, the present law in
the United Kingdom permits the police discretion to take fingerprints and
biological samples without the consent of the individual...At the same time,
we note that the distinction between recordable and non-recordable offences
is to some extent arbitrary (e.g. failing to give advance notice of a
procession is recordable, but obstruction of the highway is not)...
Home Office proposals announced in March 2007 suggested that the police may
in future be permitted to take and store fingerprints and biological samples
from any arrestee, regardless of whether or not the offence was recordable.
This would extend sampling to people who may have been arrested on suspicion
of minor offences, such as minor traffic offences, littering or begging.
With this potential further extension of police powers, the National DNA
Database (NDNAD) could expand dramatically, rapidly encompassing a fifth or
more of the population. It is our view that the authority of the police to
take and store both fingerprints and biological samples from all arrestees
without their consent, regardless of the reason for the arrest, is
disproportionate to the aims of identifying a person and of
confirming whether or not a person was at a crime scene. Suspicion of
involvement in a minor (at present ‘non-recordable’) offence does not
justify the taking of bioinformation from individuals without their consent
(paragraph 4.23)."

Well if they were singing out of tune, they should have been arrested. They
need to arrest a few people I have heard in the Karaoke bars
LOL
Sorry could not help this.

The Police not only have the power to take these samples but in the case of
DNA, even if charges are dropped or the person is acquitted they refuse, as a
matter of policy, to destroy the samples. It is clear, what with the ID card
system, NHS super database, that what we are witnessing is the creation of a
giant computer database which will enable the State and its agents to have
access to all pertinent information about any individual at the press of a
button.
Of course if you want information about the state and apply to the Police for
the same you will be met with a raft of objections, not least citing
'confidentiality' re other individuals e.g. videoing of demonstrations or as in
a case I'm pursuing, where someone is sacked years later for information
including on an Enhanced CRB form, (even though his previous form did not
include the information, because they changed the rules) which included
allegations that the Police did not proceed with. They have refused to date to
provide even any elaboration on the allegations contained within, thereby
meaning that if the person concerned had been convicted of the offences, he
would really have been in no worse position than to have been found not guilty.
What is being done by New Labour is to lay the basis for the creation of a
Police State. It is interesting that the Nazis used some of the first
computers to keep records on Jews, (punch cards) which undoubtedly helped in
their collation of names/addresses etc. Who is to say that some other minority
won't equally benefit from Brown/Blair's introduction of ID cards?

It seems the police may have powers to take DNA samples (if they get hold of
you). Concern expressed in a recent bioethics committee report:
http://www.nuffieldbioethics.org/fileLibrary/pdf/The_forensic_use_of_bioinformation_-_Executive_Summary.pdf
"Fingerprints and DNA samples may be taken from suspects, victims or
witnesses in the course of criminal investigations. If an individual has
been arrested in connection with a recordable offence, the present law in
the United Kingdom permits the police discretion to take fingerprints and
biological samples without the consent of the individual...At the same time,
we note that the distinction between recordable and non-recordable offences
is to some extent arbitrary (e.g. failing to give advance notice of a
procession is recordable, but obstruction of the highway is not)...
Suspicion of
involvement in a minor (at present non-recordable) offence does not
justify the taking of bioinformation from individuals without their consent
(paragraph 4.23)."

I haven't been for some time but I'm going next week.
