They are advertising for people to become Labour councillors! The salary 12K,
blackberry, allowances, PC, etc.
Is the Labour Party really that hard up for candidates? Usually they are drawn
from within the Party, are already familiar with the problems within their
wards, and communities, have held positions as ward treasurer, chairs,
secretary, etc.
I understand that we do need a wider range of candidates to represent the
varied communities in Brighton & Hove, especially younger candidates, but to
advertise for someone who might not have made any contribution at all to the
local party, or know anything about how the party elects its representatives,
nominations, etc, is surely a sign of desperation.
Bins: happily our streets will be free of rotting left overs in the summer
months.
Bandstand: For too long our elegant bandstand was neglected. The city relies
upon tourism so of course it's a good investment to ensure its attractions, are
repaired, and well maintained. If the west pier had been preserved it would be
a major attraction along with the bandstand, helping to boost the local
economy. Why not glow paint it so it glows in the dark?
Road Works: the clear lines and directions make it safer for pedestrians and
drivers, though something must be done about CLARIFYING where cyclists can go
along the seafront.
Barbeques: the season has arrived and its becoming a health hazard to visit the
seafront due to the smoke from barbeques especially with an on shore breeze.
The barbs are also being left below the high water mark so that they pollute
the sea and then get washed back up. I would like to see this open air cooking
banned from the beaches.
