NEWSLETTER (27:15)
Important Newsletter News!
At the GBCP AGM on June 24, Ben will be stepping down as Secretary of the
Partnership. Information about the partnership for the newsletter is currently
put together by Ben and, as you know, anyone who wants anything included in the
newsletter also sends that info to him. THIS IS GOING TO CHANGE!
There is now a new email address to send anything you would like to be included
in the newsletter to. Members of the newsletter team (which will still include
Ben) will check this email address regularly so that they can compile the
information. The newsletters will be sent out from that email address, rather
than Ben’s personal one. If you want to do a ‘special guest newsletter’, that
can also be sent to the new account and we’ll send it out. Please start using
the new email address now and we will keep reminding you. As usual, please try
to keep big attachments to a minimum. Help make Ben’s, Laura’s and Kirsty’s
inbox a happy, empty place!
The new email address is <email obscured>
Make Sunday Special
This will be on June 14 when we will be taking over the lower end of North
Street. Hopefully, hundreds of local people will show up and we are proposing
to organise a stall (or two if necessary) that will carry leaflets from local
groups and so encourage people to join in various activities. But, as well as
leaflets we need people to staff the stall between 10 and 4. Two people for
6 hours isn’t fair, but a dozen people over 6 hours might be fun.
If you can help, please get back to <email obscured> and say what
times you can be available. He’ll draw up a rota.
An Awards Panel Needs You.
We are currently running two funding streams Let’s Walk Bedminster and the
Better Bedminster Community Chest. Both close for applications on 29 May.
We will need to set up two Awards Panels to consider these applications and
make recommendations to the GBCP Meeting of 24 June.
Please come to at least one of these so that we have a broad cross section of
local opinion. You do not need any special skills, just some common sense.
Thursday, June 4: Better Bedminster Community Chest Awards Panel. Meet at
6.30pm in Bedminster Library, East Street.
Monday, June 8: Let’s Walk Bedminster Awards Panel. Meet at 7.00pm at
Southville Centre, Beauley Road.
Patchwork Fundraiser
On Friday 29th the Patchwork Community Gardening Group is having a fundraiser
at the Hen & Chicken from 7:30pm. Only a fiver for five musical acts, writer
Roy Gallop and a few surprises. Poster attached. Among the projects the group
is raising money for is a second community orchard in the neighbourhood!
Tickets at the Bristol Ticket Shop or on the door.
There is also a Patchwork session this week on Thursday at 6.30pm. Meet at the
community orchard (behind the Tesco on North Street) for tidying in preparation
for the Get Growing Trail on 6-7 June. On 6th June from 2-4pm make a ‘bee
hotel’ on the community orchard and find out more about what’s growing there.

Wild Bedminster
Bristol University is pleased with its collaboration with GBCP in 2014. This
is one of several links with both Bristol and UWE. Julia Kole, a research
student from Canada, worked with the BS3 Wildlife Group and others to ask why
BS3 is one of the least bio-diverse neighbourhoods in Bristol and what can be
done about it. See http://ow.ly/Nh8tE for more information. This project
has also led to the emerging links between GBCP and Avon Wildlife Trust and
their My Wild City project. My Wild City is looking at how back gardens can
become stronger parts of the local wildlife habitat. More detail from Ben if
you want to make your garden more wildlife friendly.
Cycle Storage
TravelWest is developing a project to improve cycle (and buggy) storage
facilities in properties owned by Registered Social Landlords within Residents’
Parking Scheme areas. If you live in social housing and are frustrated with
your bicycle storage facilities then Amanda would love to hear from you. Please
email or call:

Vision & Falls
GBCP is building its links with our universities and we are collaborating with
Bristol University on a project called Vision and Falls. See the attached
invitation to give up 30 minutes and chat to Laura. ‘I’ve done it’, says Ben
Barker ‘and lived to tell the tale’.
You're invited to a Garden Party
The Southville Centre's community garden will form the focal point of a fun day
themed party to mark Southville Community Development Association’s 25th
birthday. There will be music, family friendly activities, tea and cake.
There's also a competition to create an enchanted garden on a plate or tray.
Pop along from 1.30-4.30pm on 20th June.
GBCP Constitution Revisions
We need to make some modifications in our constitution to bring it up to date.
Boring!!!!
The constitution is attached with suggested amendments in red. I don’t think
there is a particular need for further changes, but you may think otherwise.
If so, please get back to Ben asap.
