Residents Parking

The whole aspect of residents parking is based on two incorrect assumptions as
well as being just another way of taxing the motorist.
The first incorrect assumption is this:
Parking for residents in south Bristol would improve if commuters were not
allowed to park. The ironic aspect of this is that on the leaflet that BCC
circulated there was a view of Beauley Road purporting to show how bad the
parking was. Now if you look a Beauley Road on a Sunday morning when presumably
there are no commuters and compare it with the same view on a Monday morning
you will find there is no difference in the number of cars parked there. This
means that charging us for parking would make no difference to the number of
parking spaces available to residents. Having paid our £40 or £100 for the
right to park, we would still be driving around looking for somewhere to park.
The second incorrect assumption is that car ownership will continue to increase
- it won't; with the price of fuel as it is now and expected to rise further,
people will be giving up their cars or at least not using them as much.
Moreover, why should we have to pay to accommodate commuter's travel plans. The
commuter should be the one to pay, not the poor old resident.
This will lay yet another layer of tax and bureaucracy upon those of us who are
already the highest taxed drivers in Europe courtesy of this wretched
government.
By the by, man made global warming is a myth introduced by politicians in order
to cut the amount of oil we use. Not because it creates CO2 but because the
world's supplies are running out.
