i just saw that the Bemidji City Council took up the issue of rental housing
density and potentially putting a moratorium on issuing permits to those who
want to convert single family housing units to rentals ( see pioneer article on
this topic here: http://tinyurl.com/lhr3l8). One of the rationals for
considering the moratorium is that the conversion to rental units is altering
the "character" of various neighborhoods.
What do folks think about this issue. I suspect there are positives on both
side of this, but the issue of neigborhood character seems a bit "loaded" to
me.
